Nangroe Aceh Darussalam

Aceh is special territory of Indonesia, located on the northern tip of the island of Sumatra. Its full name is Nangroe Aceh Darussalam. It is thought to have been Aceh where Islam was firstly established in Southeast Asia. In early seventeenth century the sultanate was the most wealthy, powerful and cultivated state in Malacca Straits region. Aceh has a history of political independence fierce resistance to control by outsiders, including the former Dutch colonist and Indonesian government. Aceh has substantial nature resources, including oil and gas – some estimates put Aceh reserves as being the largest in the world. Relative to most Indonesia, it is religiously conservative area.

Getting There:

Its only forty five minutes from Medan and two and half hours from Jakarta.
It can also be reach from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur via Medan even than Jakarta.

Diving in Weh Island is a well-established recreational activity with dive masters and dive instructors ready to offer a variety of dive sites like a fabled SeaGarden in Rubiah Island

  • Alas River : Alas River flows into the Indian Ocean; this river has exceptional rapids that attract whitewater rafting enthusiasts for all over the world.

  • Mount Leuser : Hiking to the peak of Mount Leuser (3,494 meters) takes about 10-14 days. The small village of Angasan is suitable starting point. Angasan is located several hours west of Biang Kejeran. Most hikers spend the night in Angasan and start their trek in the morning. The first five days go through virgin rain forest where rare primates can often be seen.

  • Baiturrahman Mosque : Baiturrahman Mosque in the masterpiece of Islamic architecture and ornamentation is the main feature of Banda Aceh. It has five onion-shaped domes, two towering minarets, expansive white walls, and pillars with beautiful design.
